NAEP shows how much learning America needs to make up. Some districts are better positioned than others.
“Today’s NAEP results, though unsurprising, are devastating. Every thoughtful voice in the country is talking about the enduring, substantial efforts that will be needed to recover. But some districts are far better positioned than others to deliver that improvement. What sets those districts apart isn’t mysterious, but now we have the data to show some of the organizational structures that correlate with stronger learning. Based on new research, which will be presented in a report in November, five characteristics distinguish districts with stronger learning outcomes: family and community engagement; strong financial management; exemplary leadership and governance; high-performing school personnel; and a positive work environment. If districts are serious about getting kids back on track, they need to be serious about the core foundations that influence their work. Knowing these factors can help.”
