Evidence-Based Root Cause Analysis for Statewide Early Literacy Improvement
Tuesday, March 29, 2022 | 12:15–1:15 p.m. PT
In 2021, as part of a three-year statewide effort, the Sacramento County Office of Education partnered with Pivot Learning to develop a set of interconnected supports to address the needs of California’s 73 lowest-performing schools in TK–3 literacy. Together, we introduced foundational models and professional learning that built the schools’ knowledge, capacity, and buy-in while engaging in a process of root cause analysis and needs assessment culminating in fully funded literacy action plans. In this session, we will share how we built knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices, guided teams to reflect on current practices and data, and engaged in root cause analysis from an asset-based lens. We will conclude with implications for adapting and replicating this model in other contexts.
