Aligning and Embedding: Critical Factors for Improving Outcomes for Older Students with Reading Difficulties

October 26, 2022

The recently released National Assessment of Educational Progress scores show that about a third of students in fourth and eigth grades are not able to read at even the “basic” achievement level. Without foundational reading skills, generally taught in kindergarten through third grade, students are unable to keep up with learning other subjects like math and science.

But older students with reading difficulties can still become strong readers. Watch this timely webinar to learn what’s needed from both a systems and instructional standpoint to change the trajectory for upper elementary and secondary students.

Dr. Sharon Vaughn discusses:

  • The unique and complex challenges older students face to improve their reading comprehension
  • School-wide approaches to instruction that enhance reading comprehension outcomes for older students
  • How to design an instructional approach that both addresses the specific needs of students with reading difficulties and aligns with a school-wide approach
  • Examples of how to provide specific instruction in critical components of reading to older students

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain insight into what’s needed to help older students achieve reading success.
