Aligning and Embedding: Critical Factors for Improving Outcomes for Older Students with Reading Difficulties

The recently released National Assessment of Educational Progress scores show that about a third of students in fourth and eigth grades are not able to read at even the “basic” achievement level. Without foundational reading skills, generally taught in kindergarten through third grade, students are unable to keep up with learning other subjects like math and science.
