Communications and Development Associate

We are currently seeking a Communications & Development Associate to work across our Marketing & Communications and Development teams. Candidates must be passionate about and committed to Pivot’s mission and vision. They should be adept at writing and editing for different audiences and have excellent workplace communication ability (listening, speaking, and writing). Candidates should also have solid coordination and collaboration skills with the ability to build strong and positive relationships with teammates and external clients.

This is a full-time, exempt position, reporting to a Director or Vice President. Pivot is currently a virtual organization, with the majority of staff based in California. Candidates for this position can be based anywhere in the US; this is a remote role based out of your home office. This position will require periodic travel for events and internal meetings. Please note that Pivot requires vaccination against COVID-19 for all employees and consultants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting operations coordination and project management, including developing and tracking project plans, communicating with project stakeholders, and managing internal processes and systems
  • Supporting the development, renewal, and reporting of grants and contracts
  • Writing and editing communications and marketing deliverables, including blogs, collateral, short-form content, and email copy
  • Supporting quality assurance, including copy-editing, formatting, and coordination
  • Supporting virtual and in-person meetings and events, including materials, logistics, registration, note-taking, and participant follow-up
  • Collecting, organizing, and managing data from various sources
  • Providing administrative support, including expenses, budget tracking, and file management
  • Other duties as assigned


  • A passion for Pivot’s vision, mission, and core values, a commitment to public education as a key lever for opportunity, and a desire to deepen the organization’s impact
  • A deep understanding of institutional and structural racism and bias and how inequitable systems impact outcomes for students most underserved by our education system
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience, ideally including experience in public education
  • Proven writing and editing ability, including copy editing
  • Solid project management skills, including the capacity to develop plans and manage resources and the ability to prioritize, organize, and handle multiple tasks with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong and highly professional verbal and written communication ability
  • A strong collaboration orientation with the capacity to cultivate and maintain professional, positive, and productive relationships with our internal teams and external partners
  • Dependable, proactive, and highly efficient with assigned work
  • Proficiency with Microsoft and Google suites
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required

Compensation and Benefits

Pivot Learning offers a competitive compensation package, including medical/dental/vision insurance, 403b, vacation leave, sick leave, and 15 paid holidays. Salary is commensurate with experience.
