Instructional Materials Reviewer
Part-time, temporary position for California-based educators

About the Position

Pivot Learning is partnering with EdReports and the English Learner Success Forum to provide publishers and education leaders with the information they need to better generate and select instructional materials, respectively, that are responsive to the needs of English learners/multilingual learners.

We are currently seeking Reviewers to be part of a team evaluating five sets of instructional materials for their alignment to best practices that support English learners/multilingual learners. The instructional materials for this review will be math-specific, at the middle school level. Reviewers will use a rubric developed in partnership with English learner experts. Training (approximately 5 hours total, some asynchronous and some synchronous; all outside of school hours) will take place virtually in April/May 2022; the materials review period will be summer 2022, most likely via an in-person, 3-5 day convening in the last two weeks of June, in California. Reviewers must be available for an in-person review during that window of time (which will last 3-5 weekdays within that 2 week window). This is a temporary contract project open to California-based educators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in training sessions to ensure fluent understanding of rubric and inter-rater reliability, including:
    • Virtual pre-training prep sessions
    • Virtual training
  • Review instructional materials using a designated rubric, and complete written reviews within the given time parameters
  • Participate in a 5-person panel review process, including developing a group perspective and written documentation on how well the instructional materials align to the designated rubric

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience working with English learners/multilingual learners in a California classroom setting, preferably teaching or supporting teachers with instruction, within the last 5 years
  • Expertise in math instruction at the middle school level
  • Familiarity with California’s English language development framework preferred
  • High attention to detail to ensure ratings are accurately measured and tracked; experience and comfort with qualitative data collection
  • Comfort working with and reviewing both digital and hard-copy instructional materials
  • Organizational skills and ability to work with a large volume of data
  • Track record of improving educational opportunities for English learners/multilingual learners
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work productively with other educators
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Availability during the training (April/May 2022) and review period (late June 2022)
  • Currently located in California

Compensation and Benefits

Instructional Materials Reviewers will be paid a stipend of $2,200 plus all travel expenses.
