About the Position

At Pivot we look for talented and inspiring colleagues who believe in public education and the imperative to support schools to innovate and improve. We are currently seeking a Program Associate to join the Pivot team.

This role will work across two portfolios of work: Support Every Learner (i.e., prevention and intervention) and Lead on the Issues (i.e., research and evaluation). The ideal candidate will be committed to Pivot’s mission, vision, and values, and highly passionate about working in education (practice and/or policy). Required skillset includes analytic capabilities, interpersonal and communications skills, and experience building positive
external relationships.

This is a full‐time, Exempt position, dually reporting to a Vice President (for prevention and intervention) and Senior Program Manager (for research and evaluation). Pivot is headquartered in Oakland, CA; however, all staff are currently working remotely due to the COVID‐19 pandemic. We anticipate going back to an in‐office setting at a future date, once it is safe, for staff who are located in the Bay Area. Candidates for this position are preferred, but not required, to be based in the Bay Area. Once travel is considered safe, periodic travel (car and air) may be required for this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing and executing research/evaluation plans to learn about and improve the organization’s programming. This includes designing and administering data collection tools, conducting research, organizing data, analyzing findings, producing reports, and presenting data analysis to
  staff, partners, and clients.
• Developing and managing project plans, playing a lead role in keeping projects and internal/external stakeholders on track.
• Planning in‐person or virtual engagements—including workshops, trainings, school site visits, and project updates—with project partners/clients, such as school districts, charter management organizations (CMOs), schools and funders. This includes:
  • Communicating with participants (e.g., managing/tracking RSVPs).
  • Editing, organizing, and distributing content to participants.
  • Managing meeting mechanics for staff and participants (e.g., managing online breakout rooms and polls, answering technical questions from participants).
• Staying abreast of emerging research and policy trends in public education and identifying additional evidence‐based practices to incorporate into our programming.
• Developing, revising, managing, and sharing resources for Pivot staff and external partners/clients. This includes copy‐editing and formatting.
• Assisting in business development efforts, including gathering information on potential clients, providing potential clients with information about work, and drafting project proposals.
• Supporting internal project meetings, including scheduling, managing invites, developing and/or revising agenda and content for the meetings, managing logistics, and note‐taking.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A passion for the mission and vision of Pivot Learning and a desire to continually broaden and deepen the organization’s impact in public education.
• A commitment to understanding institutional and structural racism and bias, and their compounding impact on underserved and underrepresented communities. Experience living or working in underserved communities a huge plus.
• Exceptional communication skills—writing, speaking, and listening—including copy‐editing skills.
• Experience collecting, organizing, managing, analyzing and presenting quantitative data, qualitative data, or market research.
• Solid project management skills, including the ability to develop plans and prioritize, organize, and handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.
• A proactive, self‐directed working style—and a commitment to collaborating with colleagues.
• Problem‐solving mindset, including a customer service focus, and efficiency with assigned work.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong PowerPoint and Excel skills.
• Currently virtual, but eventually able to travel regularly to project sites across the US.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
