Program Manager

At Pivot, we look for talented and inspiring colleagues who believe in public education and the imperative to support schools to innovate and improve. We are currently seeking a Program Manager, Curriculum Adoption & Implementation to join the Pivot team. This position will be responsible for managing a portfolio of curriculum policy and research projects focused on Multilingual Learners. Specifically, this position will manage one project focused on assessing the quality of instructional materials for Multilingual Learners and another project focused on assessing the quality of school assignments for Multilingual Learners.

This is a full-time, Exempt position, reporting to the VP, Curriculum Adoption & Implementation. Candidates for this position can be based anywhere in the US. Pivot is headquartered in Oakland, CA, and we anticipate Bay Area staff returning to an in-office setting at a future date. All staff are currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Once travel is considered safe, future travel (car and air) will be required for this role, including regular travel to Oakland and district sites nationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management. Serve as project manager for assigned projects, guiding them from launch through achievement of all deliverables. Using strong project management skills and a high level of organization, develop and manage a project plan for each project, plan and lead regular meetings of project teams, and supervise project staff and contractors.
  • Partnership Development. Develop and/or maintain productive partnerships with Local Education Agencies (LEA) partners (e.g., schools, districts, charters, county offices) and other key partners, (e.g. education nonprofits, research/policy/ advocacy organizations, technology companies, state entities).
  • Meeting Facilitation & Materials Development. Prepare for, facilitate, and manage follow-up from events, trainings, workshops, and 1:1 site meetings (virtual or in-person) with all partners. This includes preparing for and facilitating learning arcs or learning experiences for a cohort of participants over time, and co-developing materials/resources/tools for various audiences.
  • Data Collection, Analysis & Evaluation. With oversight from Pivot’s research/evaluation team, collect, organize, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, developing drafts of reports, and facilitating cycles of feedback to finalize reports. These reports will inform future Pivot efforts and influence the curriculum implementation market. This also includes designing and disseminating various data collection methods (e.g., surveys and focus groups) and facilitating internal and external discussions to leverage learnings.
  • Communications & Marketing. In partnership with our marketing and communications team and external partners, play a key role in developing and implementing a communications strategy for projects. This will include developing and executing a dissemination strategy for reports, including developing content and presenting our work through webinars or conferences; communicating about our work through social media and our website; or contributing to grant reports/applications and presentations to funders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A passion for Pivot’s vision and mission, a commitment to public education as a key lever for opportunity, and a desire to deepen the organization’s impact. A deep understanding of institutional and structural racism and bias, and how inequities impact equitable outcomes for students most underserved by our education system.
  • Experience working in and/or with K–12 education via Local Education Agencies (county offices, districts, or charters), especially with large populations of Multilingual Learners.
  • Strong background in Multilingual Learner Development; well-versed in current research regarding language acquisition.
  • Familiarity with the high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) market and belief in HQIM as an equity lever, especially for Multilingual Learners.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, track multiple timelines, manage self and stakeholders to deadlines and deliverables, manage “up” and “across” regardless of positional authority, and ensure achievement of project goals.
  • Experience collecting, organizing, analyzing, summarizing and utilizing qualitative and quantitative data to inform project decisions, future programming or policy. Excellent written skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work productively with diverse groups and individuals and with educators and partner organizations.
  • Superb facilitation and presentation skills, including the capacity to facilitate meetings, trainings, workshops and technical assistance engagements (e.g., professional learning sessions, coaching).
  • Strong content development skills, including developing meeting materials, training and/or workshop materials, and/or other support materials (e.g., toolkits, resource libraries). Excellent writing skills; ideally experience writing policy-focused papers and reports.
  • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Asana); Microsoft/Google Suites, particularly Excel/Google Sheets for data analysis and PowerPoint/Google Slides for communication/facilitation; experience with Stata a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-10 years of relevant work experience required. Master’s degree in related field preferred.
